Welcome!

I'm a 23 year old bible college student who's about to embark on my honours year at ICC.  After leaving secondy school I trained for three years at Strathclyde in Primary Education. I'm currently studying at the International Christian College doing a combined degree in Theology and Children's Ministry. My calling is to work with 'children at risk' - those who live in economic, social, physical or spiritual poverty including victims of abuse and those who are living conditions which are detrimental to their development and well-being. My challenge is to help such children to develop holistically ie. in their physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual domains. The work is not always easy but it's incredibly rewarding in the moments where positive change is evident. The reason I do this work is because I believe that God has challenged me to make a difference in the lives of those around me, particularly those who are most vulnerable in our world today.

In July 2010 I was part of a team who took a trip to Brazil to help with the work at Casa Semear - a grass-roots ministry for children of the Sao Paulo favelas (slums/shanty towns). For me this was an amazing opportunity to get involved with the kind of work I've been training for. Casa Semear is a ministry now very close to my heart and I'm considering the possibility of long-term involvement there. This year I'll be heading back out there for two months to get more involved with the work and experience life out there "in the deep end" so that I can make a more informed decision about my future plans. The purpose of this blog is to allow people back home to keep in touch with me, to keep up to date with what's happening at Casa Semear and to journey with me as I try to decide what to do in the future. I will need a wealth of prayer and wisdom to help me discern God's calling but I'm confident that my time there over the summer will help me to reflect prayerfully and give me the opportunity to the seek the wisdom of the team both in Brazil and at home.

So, if you want to stay posted on what's happening with Casa Semear, just bookmark this page and drop in once in a while, or submit your email address in the box on the left. If you want to read more about what the team got up to on last year's trip you can read our team diary here.
